Ice baths & cold plunge in Mooloolaba

Cold water immersion has been used for centuries as a way to restore, reset and revive. At Si, we’ve brought that tradition into five individual Fjord ice baths, ranging in temperature from 12°C down to 2°C, so whether you’re easing in for the first time or you’ve made cold a regular practice, there’s a place for you here.

The cold is confronting at first. That’s part of it. But what happens in those first moments, the sharp inhale, the instinct to slow down and breathe, is where the experience begins. Most people find that once they’re in, something shifts. The mind quietens. The body follows.

Built to stay clean

We chose the Fjord Limfjord, Australia’s leading commercial-grade ice bath, because we believe the experience is only as good as the equipment behind it. No expense spared.

Each bath runs a powerful 80-litre-per-minute circulation system that cleans the full water volume every 8 minutes, while integrated ozone and UV filtration work together to eliminate bacteria, viruses and odours without heavy chemical use. An auto-dosing system adds a further layer of protection in our commercial setting. The result is water that feels fresh and clean, because it genuinely is, every single time you step in.

What cold immersion can do for you

Mood & mental wellbeing

Cold exposure triggers a significant release of dopamine and norepinephrine, neurochemicals associated with mood, motivation and focus. Many people describe feeling a lasting sense of calm and clarity after even a short immersion.

Controlled exposure to cold trains the body’s stress response over time, building a greater capacity to stay calm under pressure – in and out of the water.

Cold immersion causes blood vessels to constrict and then dilate, helping to flush out inflammatory markers and support recovery at a cellular level.

The contrast between heat and cold is particularly powerful for circulation, driving blood to the surface and back to the core, giving the cardiovascular system a natural, invigorating workout.

Regular cold exposure has been linked to increased white blood cell activity, supporting the body’s natural defences over time.

There’s a reason people come to Si at 5am. A cold plunge after the sauna is one of the most effective natural ways to feel awake, alive and ready for the day.

Research indicates cold water immersion can meaningfully reduce anxiety, mood swings and irritability for women managing menstrual symptoms, and perimenopausal women have reported notable improvements in anxiety, mood swings, low mood and hot flushes. Many describe it as one of the most instinctively helpful tools they’ve found.

You don’t have to go to 2 degrees

There’s no hierarchy here. Whether you settle into 12°C and stay a while, or you work your way down over time, every temperature is valid and every immersion counts. Listen to your body, it usually knows exactly what it needs.

A word on breathing

We encourage all guests to take a moment before entering the ice bath. A few slow, controlled breaths go a long way. The cold is easier to meet when you come to it calmly, and the experience is richer for it.

How long should you stay in?

As a general guide, 2–5 minutes is plenty for most people, most of the time. The colder the water, the less time you need. If you’re new to cold immersion, start at the warmer end and build gradually, more is not always better.

If you’re breathing steadily and feeling present, you’re in the right place. When the breath becomes forced, that’s your cue to get out, and let the afterglow do the rest.
